DR. VIPUL MUDGAL

Dr. Vipul Mudgal has been a journalist and academic in India, the UK, and South East Asia for over 30 years.

He has held senior editorial positions at Hindustan Times, India Today, BBC World Service and Asia Times. He has been Resident Editor of HT at Jaipur and Lucknow, Editor Insight at New Delhi, and Regional Editor of Asia Times in Bangkok. He has headed operations in print, electronic and Internet media in India and abroad. Vipul has a doctorate on media and terrorism from Leicester University and is a recipient of Nehru Centenary British Fellowship, and the Jefferson Fellowship at the EastWest Centre, Hawaii.

In 2009, he joined the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) as founding Director of the Inclusive Media for Change, a project which he continues to head. The project’s website, Im4change.org, works as a clearing house of ideas, information and alternatives on the issues of the marginalised. At CSDS Vipul also worked as a Visiting Senior Fellow and the founding Director of the Publics and Policies Programme.

As an activist and a media scholar, he writes and works on the intersections of media, democracy and political violence. He has conducted extensive research and delivered lectures and seminars at universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Brown, Leicester, Massachusetts, DU, IGNOU and Jamia Millia Islamia, among many others. His interests include Yoga, cooking and long distance driving.
