Central Bureau of Communication and Digital India Corporation
3rd and 5th May 2024
Political Advertisements, during elections, are done at the cost of public exchequers in violation of the Supreme Court judgement of Common Cause vs. Union of India (2015). During the General Election 2024, we observed that similar advertisements appeared on government websites, social media platforms, digital media outlets and legacy media. A bunch of RTIs were filed to seek information on the expenditure done on these advertisements by the then-ruling party. These RTIs were later forwarded to the concerned departments. In response, the concerned authorities denied responses citing that they don't maintain the records in the asked formats.
